Fringe Festival 2004
The ATC Wall appeared in the Well Fed Artist gallery for the 2004 Fringe Festival. Visitors were encouraged to bring pre-made cards or create their own on the spot, then trade with the cards in the wall. It proved to be a great way for visitors to build up their collections and share their artwork with others. Best of all, it was a free event! We thank everyone, including our dedicated staff members, who made this event such a great success for HiNgE.
Artist Trading Cards: A bunch of fun and a Great Teaching Tool
Christian Patchell
As a teacher I am always looking for new ways to interact with my students and to inspire them. I recently became involved with the artist trading card sessions held here in Philly by HiNgEOnline.com at the Well Fed artist's gallery. After my first session it was a no-brainer to bring this to my next class and introducing these sessions into the classroom has surpassed all my expectations. The students interact with each other and me during trading in ways that would make any art teacher or art critic proud. They begin by working very diligently on these 2-inch by 3-inch masterpieces that they give away to their fellow students and the guest artists I have invited. Then, and this is the most wonderful part, they proceed to discuss the art they created and that of the person with whom they are trading. It's truly amazing and exciting to see my students constructively discussing each other's work in ways that would be lost during a formal critique. More amazing is that friends, family members and even the frequent passerby all get in on the action because of artist trading card's unintimidating premise. I would like to thank Bob Dix, Kyle Margiotta, Caroline Kelsey and Melissa Lomax for being my guest artists and for coming out to trade. I would also like to thank the students, their families and friends, and the University of the Arts Saturday school program for their participation. Below are several pictures of the event.
